Narcotic drugs and substances

Importation of narcotic drugs or substances is subject to import licence issued by the IMA according to article 6 in regulation on habit-forming and narcotic substances and other controlled substances, No. 233/2001. Corporations that hold import licences can apply for licence to import narcotic drugs and substances.

Quarterly the INCB receives a report from the IMA with information on the amount of narcotic drugs and substances that have been imported into the country based on data from importers.

Annually importers are required to send information on current stock of narcotic drugs and substances to the IMA, along with information on import, export and expiry dates of narcotic drugs and substances for the past year. The IMA then applies for a quota for the next year based on these numbers.

Export of narcotic drugs and substances is subject to licence issued by the IMA. Companies that have licence to produce and distribute medicinal products can apply for licence to export narcotic drugs and substances according to article 6 in regulation on habit-forming and narcotic substances and other controlled substances, No. 233/2001.

The export licence is issued when the exporter has sent the IMA an application as well as the import licence issued in the country that the company plans to export to.

Applicants must apply for a licence for each shipment of narcotic drugs and substances using the “My pages portal”. The fee for the application is listed in the tariff.
