Efforts have been underway to transfer all website management of the Icelandic Medicines Agency, along with other institutions, to island.is, and the transition is progressing well. This change is expected to simplify access to information and services for users, while ensuring the website meets the latest requirements for security and accessibility.
The Icelandic Medicines Agency will continue to provide professional and reliable services through the new website. With this move all of the pages of the Icelandic website will now be available in English.
Timeline for the Transition
The following timeline is planned for the transition:
- October 1, 2026: All content from the Icelandic Medicines Agency will be transferred to island.is, including news articles, which will be published on both platforms during the transition period.
- October 28, 2026: The last news article will be published on ima.is. After this date, news will only be available on the Icelandic Medicines Agency's section of island.is.
- January 1, 2027: The website ima.is will no longer be accessible. However, users visiting the site will be automatically redirected to island.is.
For users - no action is required
During the transition, special care is being taken to ensure that links to content remain intact. Subscribers to news updates will continue to receive them, now from island.is. There is no need to update subscriptions.
Furthermore, it is important to note that there is no need to update pharmaceutical texts to reference the new website of the Icelandic Medicines Agency, as automatic redirection will occur from the old website to the new platform on island.is. Marketing authorization holders are specifically requested not to submit updates to texts for this purpose.
The medicinal product register on lyf.is is not part of this project and will remain unchanged.
We encourage all users to stay informed and familiarize themselves with the new online environment. Content that has already been transferred to the Icelandic Medicines Agency's section on island.is is now available for viewing.
