Information to Marketing Authorisation Holders: The abbreviations “Lot” og “EXP” in labelling

The European Medicines Agency publishes a document with terms/abbreviations for ”batch number” and “expiry date” which can be used on packages of veterinary medicinal products.

26.9.2014

The European Medicines Agency has published a document with terms/abbreviations for ”batch number”“ and ”expiry date” which can used on the packages of veterinary medicinal products. The corresponding document for human products was updated in April 2014.
The Icelandic Medicines Agency would like to draw the attention of marketing authorisation holders to the fact that all the Nordic countries now accept “Lot” as an abbreviation for batch number and “EXP” for expiry date given that EXP is explained in section 11 in the package leaflet. Consequently these abbreviations can be used on multilingual packages for the Nordic countries, clearing up space for other information. Most EU member states accept Lot and EXP.
