IMA's Annual Report 2012

IMA's Annual Report 2012 has been published on the website

This past year the IMA successfully managed to reduce many of its project tails that had formed in recent years. The Agency also continued its efforts towards special inspection of veterinary practices.

Operation of the IMA has proceeded quite well over the last year. However the Agency's income has exceeded its budget which has made it difficult for the Agency to perform its tasks as with extra income comes the responsibility of performing these tasks.

In the introduction to the annual report Rannveig Gunnarsdóttir Executive Director explains the challenges that the IMA faces today, which include a continuously growing number of projects without extra funding. An example is the law on medical devices; amendments to this law, that Parliament hasn't yet passed, would ensure that the IMA receives the necessary resources to handle this task. Another example includes the European legislation on Medicinal Products which is constantly being reviewed and changed to introduce greater demands on authorities and pharmaceutical companies, as is the case for safety in the use of drugs.
